The Griffin

Canisius College

The Griffin (Canisius College Student Newspaper)

About The Griffin Student Newspapers:

For approximately 15 years The Griffin, Canisius College's weekly student newspaper, documented the impact of impending war and its aftermath on Western New York. These collegiate papers (1933-1948) offer a unique insight into Buffalo in a time of war.

The newspapers provide glimpses of campus life, curriculum, social and regional news as well as world events. This collection supplements an internet accessible virtual exhibit, " WWII and Canisius."

(Please note: Most of these images were digitized from microfilm. Some documents were microfilmed from poor quality or damaged original newspapers. As a result, some images may appear faded, blurry, or blacked-out. The first issue of The Griffin was badly damaged. A photocopy was made and bound. However, the photocopy did not compensate for the extra width of the original paper, cutting off the right column margin. The photocopy version is the only copy of the issue that exists.)
